The Mysteries of Artistic Minds

Would an artist's commune really work on a social level? I mean, don't artists have this predilection for histrionics? How would that work if EVERYONE living in the commune was the same way inclined? It could be like living in Big Brother house with a load of hormonal teenagers. Not so 'sanctuary' really is it?
